Know the Signs

Postpartum Depression Affects All Parents

Postpartum depression (PPD) isn't limited to birthing parents. Up to 1 in 10 new fathers and 1 in 5 new mothers experience PPD. It can start anytime during the first year after your baby arrives.

Recognizing the signs early is the first step toward getting help. If you or your partner are experiencing several of these symptoms for more than two weeks, please reach out to a healthcare provider.

Common Signs to Watch For

  • Persistent sadness or feeling empty
  • Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Difficulty bonding with your baby
  • Withdrawing from your partner or loved ones
  • Overwhelming fatigue beyond normal new-parent tiredness
  • Changes in appetite or sleep (unrelated to baby care)
  • Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or shame
